EDI support in XI is afforded by either the Seeburger EDI connector, or by the Itemfield Conversion Agent.
Your best bet is to check out the SAP Developers Network and do a character search in the blogs for X12 or EDIFACT. You'll find a ton of stuff in there about it. XI out of the box does not support the X12 standard.
