To add to Michaels answer...
MGET * should work, but every FTP server's implementation is a little
different.

Also the Windows FTP client (ftp.exe) does not support passive mode FTP, so
this can be an issue for a lot of people. There is a free download you can
find on the web called ftps.exe that in essence is the exact same is MS FTP,
it can use the same command scripts and be run from a batch file just like
the MS FTP. FTPs support passive mode FTP.

Also the script commands can be stored into a text file, and you can
automate the process by including the statement:

Here is an excerpt from a batch file to FTP: (FTPs can be used instead of
FTP)

c:\windows\system32\ftp -s:\fabears\sendfab.txt -I > c:\fabears\fablog.txt
type c:\fabears\fablog.txt

In this case the script is in the file sendfab.txt and the FTP session log
is written to fablog.txt (using the > redirection). The batch file then
displays the log for the user to look at using the type command. If you
want to get really slick, you can use substitution variables and create a
unique log file name for every FTP session so you can go back and have an
audit trail.

Would you believe, I am working on almost the same exact thing myself "as we
speak?"

I am going to use command-line FTP.ExE with a script.

open ftp.thesite.com
userid
password
cd remotedirectory
lcd localdirectory
binary [if needed]
mget file1 file2 file3 [fileN]..
bye
