Well, if one had a scanner/parser (as I do), I 'suppose' I could write something to search all files in named path (options for subdirectories, filename/wildcards, file extensions etc .... just like a 'standard' file search) .. and "if" I found one or more valid ANSI interchanges in any file call that an "EDI File" and then index or 'do something else' with any documents found therein. But since an 'EDI File' can take many forms, (wrapped/unwrapped/blocked, junk at start, in the middle, at the end), short of parsing each file there would be no other way to do it. (Yes, my parser handles that). So what's this worth to you and/or others? I already create all kinds of applications which manage ANSI ASC X12 data, so for me this would really be not so much a huge intellectual challenge as it would be a 'collect and assemble the pieces' task... tedious and time consuming but surely not re-inventing the wheel. And what features would need to be included? Something like... - Scan drive/folders/files, store any documents in index somewhere. - Scan drive/folders/files for 'EDI files' , finding 'token' if file is "EDI File" (Find in ... envelope segments, set data, either?) - View summary and/or detail of documents stored in index; maybe 'extract selected document(s)' to file - Search documents (of certain type?) for 'token' (in named segment?) Although I have worked with ANSI EDI for 20+ years, currently about 90% of my workload is 'edi-related' and I have created some specialized software 'tools' for my own use, I just don't see a need for this personally nor any real 'market' , so I would only consider doing it for purely mercenary reasons. But... I have done 'shared development' projects before, so if maybe you can assemble a group of persons with this same need/desire it might make ecomonic sense. Given a bit better idea of the specific feature set required, I'd be happy to provide a quotation. Just drop me a note to address below. (I can only do this for Windows environments). Michael C.
