Are you using Gentran or GIS?
Gentran NT doesn't allow real SQL statements. The "select" extended rule is
not the same as a SQL select. Same with UPDATE. User exits are your only
option in this case.

Other versions/platforms are outside my realm of expertise.

I am doing  an inbound Mapping, in which we need to get some data from
database in the Begin of the Target Segment.I have written an select query
at the start of the Target in Extended rule.i have created Table in my
database even then i am getting an error  while compiling such as ERROR
"expected a database table name". can any one help in solving in error.
