Tor, Alan and Doug,

The following is Sue Donarski’s response to the question.
Sincerely, Chris Driscoll

The 204 does not have a place for sending miles at the stop level (or anywhere
else as far as I can determine). The MEA segment is tied to commodity and as
such would not be an appropriate place to attempt to send miles.

If they have a business need to transmitting miles, then I'd have to say they
will need to submit a DM to have that added to the 204.

Tor -

While data element 355 is in the S5 segment, it is tied in a conditional
relationship with data element 382, so it can not be used for miles.

Alan -

Can you be more specific? Do you want to tell the carrier how many miles from
the shipper to consignee? How many miles from the carrier's terminal to your
location?

There are unit of measure codes in the S5 (Stop Off Details) segment for
miles.

Subject: [EDI-L] <TECH> Segment for Miles in 204 transaction set

Hi,

I was wondering where one could specify the miles on a 204 Load Tender
transaction set. My first thought was the MEA segment but from what
I've been told, that segment isn't used in transportation industry.

Thanks,
Alan
