I've done this before and the best results have been when I've talked very little about the technology and kept it all "business" terms. Most of the people who aren't in the EDI department and want to know about it aren't incredibly technology-savvy. Use things they can relate to, like show pictures of the client, show the *information* they are sending/requesting (i.e. use human terms, not EDI terms, like Invoice and PurchaseOrder, as opposed to 810 or 850). You can probably show the surface technology, i.e. ServerA receives the message and imports into our system, ServerB sends request x-times-day, etc. If they want to know more details, then do a followup meeting for the "advanced" users. Most analysts though are satisfied with understanding the general concepts. At the very end of the meeting, there might be some who wonder why a whole department has to handle EDI (i.e. "this sounds easy") do a small 5 minute appendage of the technology. You know, a whole "This has covered the surface of EDI. If you want to know the details, here's a small preview" and then spew everything that goes on, the logging, the mapping, the errors, the flows, etc. That should give them enough knowledge to appreciate the process and enough fear to get them to stop bugging you ;) Bryce K.
