Why would some one use a REF segment for an indicator to distinguish between
a domestic supplier ship and a direct ship from the importer? The REF
segment is to specify a reference ID; so what reference number would one
use? There are only two codes related to imports and they require a
reference id, and are not applicable to the situation.

We do not have a clear understanding of the situation. It sounds to me like
it is more of who ships the merchandise. In addition, Angela stated they
are using the VICS subset.

One needs to completely understand the situation, which is not clear at this
time, and then look at the VICS subset.

I would not feel comfortable giving off the cuff advice; especially when it
is using a segment that is clearly not functionally applicable; but that's
me.

I don't have a copy of the VICS 4010 Guidelines so I am unable to comment.

Angela

A REF segment is good for this. I am sure that you can find a good qualifier

to split domestic or import. REF_01 is Element 128. See a previous email for

the list of all Elements and their valid codes. If not, then ZZ is always
available ;-)

Subject: [EDI-L] 850 - Import Orders

> We create domestic and direct import orders that are sent via an 850 PO
document, version 004010VICS. These orders are created using the same
internal vendor number, however, some vendors have requested that we include
something in the 850 that can be mapped so vendros can determine which 850
documents are domestic and which are import. Does anyone have any
suggestions for which segment/element this could be transmitted in?
