I found freelance tough.
I'm good at what I do, and once I get my foot in the door, I can help just
about anyone. The money, when it's there, is good. You can work from home a lot,
and set your own hours.
As stated, the income can be irregular. And, you have to be a good marketer
and salesman. Which I'm not. Actually, I can ID a market, but I suck at cold
calling. You spend more time looking for work than actually working. At least
that's been my experience. also, there are no benifits when you're freelance.
I took a psuedo programmer job at a major medical device manufacturer in
Temecula. The pays OK, but it's steady. My drive is 6 miles one way.....and
here in So Cal that's worth about 10-15 K /yr alone.

All,
I am wondering if I can get some opinions from this list on the benefits
and downfalls of consulting/permanent EDI work. In the current
marketplace is there a need for 'road warriors' or is the market
saturated? How does one break into this world? Is it worth the
risks/rewards? Or, should one be happy that one has a decent permanent
job and stick it out for the next 30 years?
All responses are welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
