Apparently "permanently", as in Jim Curcurato's assurance that,
"Replying to the unsubscribe address WILL in fact remove you permanently
from our mailing list as there is no desire or advantage to repeatedly
send information to someone who does not want" has a different meaning
on your planet.
 
I can't help it if you don't like using the EDI-L list to hawk your
wares, but I don't appreciate it being harvested/reharvested to SPAM me,
