Thanks. Interestingly enough, I do sort of the same thing today; I take
application files from zseries and use a Sterling utility to create COBOL copy
books, and I use them to input to a little awk script I wrote that creates
webMethods schemas. This way I'm sort of sure that my flat file webMethods
integrations are going to match my application definitions.

I say "sort of sure" because sometimes I find that the source code has marched
on and created new fields (out of filler space, etc.) that are invisible to the
application definition. They are usually internal fields for application
system use and not part of the inbound or outbound record, but it is nice to
have all the documentation aligned. :)

They have some sort of import function for the zseries stuff but all you get
are your record layouts. You lose all std and extended rules, I am not even
sure the links are there because all that is completely different on the client
server versions of gentran. The GIS mapper I have now says you can import a
COBOL copy book to get your record layouts though I haven't personally tried
it. I just read the instructions that said it was possible. They didn't have
any of that back when I had to convert a bunch of Gentran basic 1.3 maps to
Gentran Server: NT 2.1.

So the answer is not REALLY. Sort of...it saves you some typing of file
layouts but when that's done you still don't have a usable map.

But nobody answered my question about whether it was REALLY possible to convert
a zSeries map to another Gentran flavor.
