Sysco is the 800 lb gorilla in the food service distribution business. And they smell like one. Your assessment that it's their way or the highway is accurate.
When I was with my former employer we sold Sysco a few SKUs: not food items, but adult diapers and absorbent pads. They wanted us to pay an annual fee that would have gobbled up a huge chunk of the margin, and would have put us into the red on that account. We told them to go fly a kite. They lost the utility of EDI, and we saved an amount equal to the better part of my salary.
