This was a response to a query by a member, not a sales pitch. Many
Europeans are multi-lingual, as are many Asians. It may surprise some
Americans, but the ability to speak only one's own language is not a
limitation of civilizations outside the USA.

Hi Art,

You forgot <SALES> in your header.

FYI I had to laugh when I thought of Softshare Amsterdam staff trying to
speak Dutch accented English via phone to a Chinese supplier in the 2 hours
of the business day that overlap.

Regards,

J. Hatcher

Karen,

Softshare's European office services clients in east Asia, and provides
server-based as well as web forms solutions and VAN services. Give their US
office a call, or wait until early tomorrow and catch their Amsterdam sales
staff if interested.

Subject: [EDI-L] EDI Providers in Asia

Hi everyone.

We're trying to move our Asian distributors from Excel spreadsheets to EDI
for the 846 and 867. I've been asked to provide "recommendations" for EDI
providers. Some have reported that they can do EDI, but not with "foreign
vendors." Others don't have any EDI system at all.

Should I just advise them to Google "EDI providers" or "web-based EDI"? Are
there any restrictions or limitations on VAN interconnects between
countries? I remember long ago, at my last job, that a potential trading
partner was using SNS in Singapore and they were going to require us to do
the same because they weren't "allowed" to do interconnects, or some such
thing (the memory's getting fuzzy).

I guess I'm just looking for a general approach. Any ideas would be
appreciated. If you're selling, please <SALES> tag your subject.

Thanks,
Karen Norton.
