I'm in violent agreement. I have also used the 830 as a VMI signal, by
differentiating between 'firm' requirements (generated a PO) and 'planned'
requirements (directed to the CPFR modules.)

Richard,

We sent product movement via the 852 to the vendors who
plugged the data into their VMI application and then sent us 855s back
on what they were sending to our various branches. Works well if the
VMI model is well thought out and the vendor doesn't stick you with slow
or not moving items.

Dan

That's why I qualified it. :) However, he asked for a pull signal
specifically, which made me move away from the 852. Is it useful as a
pull signal?

Richard,

Might I suggest the 852 instead of the 940? That is what we
used for VMI with our vendors.

Typical transactions? Depends on your industry and your trading partner.
That's why they call it a 'trading partnership.'

Assuming 'vanilla' industry and 'vanilla' transactions:

850 - PO
855 - POA
860 - PO Change
865 - PO Change Ack
810 - Invoice
940, maybe, for JIT/VMI pull signals
830 - Forecast
856 - Advance Ship Notice
846 - Inventory Advice

How's this?

our company is planning to imnplement EDI with direct customers by
replacing the existing distributor based model.
Can you plesae throw some light on what are the typical transactions for
this model? And also please share your experiences if you were involved
in simialr projects.

We are counting on some common transactions like - Order, Order Ack,
Change Order, Change Order Ack, Invoice, JIT pull signal, VMI Pull
Signal, Forecast, Advance ship notice, inventory report etc.

Happy thanksgiving.
