We had a sales engineer come in and give us a demo some time ago. It was
rather short, since we were compressed for time, but it was on a virtual
machine and he was able to VPN into a Sterling test box to actually be useful
with it.

We have had Sterling come in and do their song-n-dance for GIS but decided
to use Gentran on the as/400 for a while longer. However, due to some issues
we have had recently, I may start looking into GIS.

Does anyone know if Sterling will let you test drive GIS or allow you to see
it in action before you buy it?

I feel bad for them, but shame on the client for not doing his due
diligence. Why on earth would he take the word of a salesperson to make a
critical decision like that?

Hi Rachel-

It's expensive. GIS is "the hot thing" as of late, and Sterling knows it.

I have a client who is running the old Sterling Gentran product for the
AS/400. Sterling's salespeople told them that the Gentran product was being
sunset on the 400, and urged them to invest in GIS on the Windows platform.
They were told that all of the maps/logic could be re-developed within 6
months.

Nearly 2 years and a couple hundred thousand later (including Sterling's
consultant fees), and they are still only ½ converted. b/t/w the
salespeople lied, as the 400 product was not being sunset.

With that said, it's a powerful and cool product. J

Hope it helps.

Mike

Good Morning,

We are having a Sterling Dog and Pony Show this morning. Of course,
they have skirted the issue of the cost of GIS. We have looked at a
number of "EAI" tools. Can someone provide a ballpark cost for a GIS
implementation (software only) on WIN2003 server?

Thanks
