I could not disagree with you more completely.  Having worked with several
companies that wrote their own parser with no clear understanding of the
overall EDI concepts, not just a single document, I am well aware of the
limitations of such a methodology.  Most notably, there were way too many
instances of coding for the document, and not that overall standard.  In
other words, what worked for one EDI document did not work for others.

 

While not impossible, you have chosen a very tough row to hoe.
