Join the AECF on Tuesday, September 9 for lunch and a presentation
entitled The Payments Revolution: How Emerging Payment Types are
Changing e-Commerce by Andrew B. Morris, President and Founder, Morris
Advisors, Inc.
Fueled by the increased penetration of broadband Internet services,
eCommerce is growing at 25% year-over-year, over $260 billion in 2008.
Although credit cards remain by far the most prevalent way to pay
online, the payments world is experiencing historical change. Credit
card issuers are spending billions of dollars annually on loyalty
programs and this has driven consumers' usage of payment cards in all
venues. Even so, the traditional payment mechanisms fail to deliver
for both merchants and consumers in a number of important ways.
Alternative methods of payments - such as PayPal, Bill Me Later,
Google Checkout, and many other new players - are revolutionizing the
way the consumers pay for goods and services online. At the same
time, the mobile phone has emerged as an important and disruptive new
channel for customer self-service, payments, and marketing
applications, including the potential to bring virtual world
alternative payments to the physical point-of-sale.
This presentation will explore the implications and opportunities
presented by mobile channels and alternative payments for online and
multi-channel merchants and billers.
