A couple weeks ago there was a thread began when somebody asked about a computer for use as an EDI workstation and somebody else questioned the reason for installing EDI locally in contrast to SaaS.
Your response points out the primary reason for installing EDI locally. That is, the people who's business is on the line are the people who have the access to and responsibility for the processing. Sure, this is an alpha test. Sure, a good SaaS host will be far more reliable than a pilot project. BUT, who is to say that even the best host, say a company as big and powerful and successful as Enron, or Worldcom, might not come through for their clients. The company who keeps their processing in-house may find it more expensive, and less reliable. But they are the masters of their own destiny. My two cents.
