Hi Char
Please find this presentation attached that might help you and others that
are looking for a quick introduction to EDI.
This was a presentation that I gave to some of my colleagues when I
initiated the EDI department for a company I worked for 10+ years ago.
The source & facts for some of the initial slides was extracted from
Netspace's introduction to EDI. I don't know if you can find Netspace's
introduction now on the internet, but it was a very long document with lot
of details. I condensed this for a quick introduction, although I would
probably spend about an hour to 1.5 hours talking when I give this
presentation.
Since you are familiar with EDI, you should be able to talk on this
presentation to your sales guys.
I got that information when I was researching on EDI in 1998 and my company
had a vendorship with Netspace and TSI Soft. I am not sure if anybody on
the group have worked on Netspace's ECXpert platform and they used to market
it often with Mercator 1.4 translator (Probably the 1st translator in the
market in late 90's that could run on 14 diffferent platforms as per their
documentation). At that time, Mercator used to be marketed by TSI Soft, but
has changed ownership several times since then and now aquired by IBM and
called Datastage TX.
Regards
Srini
