I haven't worked on the inbound 856, but looked at some old training manuals and found the transaction referenced as ASNI. The document reference is: Part No. A75164-03 and it does discuss the layout of the inbound ASN. If you currently have the Gateway up & running you should be able to search on ASNI and see & extract the file definition layout.
