Good to see a post from you again, Howard!

Regular expressions are tempting for that sort of evaluation, since they 
are very easy to include in your code using the PCRE dll, and 
undoubtedly very powerful. The trouble is that few people know how to 
use them, so that if the capability is present in your scripts and 
profiles you end up doing a disproportionate amount of support for 
expression debugging, rather than for your product. We settled for a 
form of segment aware wildcard matching which, whilst pathetically 
limited by comparison, is good enough for the jobs it has to do and does 
not require any great support effort.
