Mostly in retail. It's an early implementation of the same UN standards that led to EDIFACT that is no longer being developed but is still pretty widely used by a lot of store chains in the UK. The GS1 organization in the UK, which manages it, encourages adoption of EDIFACT but old habits die hard. It's idiosyncratic and weird and probably very British.
But it's still a structured standard with rules and you get the hang of it if you have to do it enough However, if our customers give us a choice between TRADACOMS and EDIFACT, we always choose EDIFACT. And that's happened with only one of our customers. Good luck. I couldn't find any ILD segments in the edifact directory though...come to find out its tradacoms.
