Mostly in retail. It's an early implementation of the same UN standards that
led to EDIFACT that is no longer being developed but is still pretty widely
used by a lot of store chains in the UK. The GS1 organization in the UK,
which manages it, encourages adoption of EDIFACT but old habits die hard.
It's idiosyncratic and weird and probably very British.

But it's still a structured standard with rules and you get the hang of it
if you have to do it enough However, if our customers give us a choice
between TRADACOMS and EDIFACT, we always choose EDIFACT. And that's happened
with only one of our customers. Good luck.

Subject: [EDI-L] Tradacoms?

I was looking at an invoice file for our UK business that they're having
difficulty getting accepted by their trading partner and I expected the doc
they called "INVOIC" to be edifact. I couldn't find any ILD segments in the
edifact directory though...come to find out its tradacoms. So I found this
document and I think it will probably help me figure out why they get a "out
of balance across the line" rejection (I hope)

I'm just interested in this tradacoms thing. Is this still widely in use in
the UK? Its a new one on me. I've done VDA but not this.
