It really depends on what you are looking for. If you are purchasing products from ASC X12 there is always a benefit to being a member. If you are trying to keep up with the latest developments in EDI or XML (CICA) there is a benefit to being a member. If you have a requirement that is not currently met in a specific transaction set, it is a good idea to participate to get your needs met. If you are looking to network with representatives from other companies that are in your industry and are already active in EDI or CICA, those people attend ASC X12 meetings. If you are interested in learning the nuts and bolts of how to construct messages in either X12 EDI or CICA, you will find that available. If you are in Healthcare, you almost have to be a member. You can go to the X12 web site, http://www.x12.org <http://www.x12.org> and click on the ASC X12 Trimester Meeting link and you can get the preliminary agenda for the meeting in October. You can also click on Committees/Groups, find the subcommittee that interests you, and review the minutes of the last meeting. You could also email or call the chair of that subcommittee with any questions. Or you can email me if you like with any questions. Good luck. -----Original Message----- From: anneco_2000 [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, September 17, 2010 12:33 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [EDI-L] ASC X12 & UN EDIFACT memberships TGIF!!! I have another question for you all. In your expert opi= nions do you think it is beneficial to become members of the ASC X12 and UN= EDIFACT groups? I am looking specifically for smaller Companies feedback on how belonging helped them or if those are unwarranted expeditures. Thanks!!
