You're going to have to define "inexpensive". There used to be an excellent product that would get you most of the way there, called EDI Assistant and it was less than $500. Edifecs and EDISIM are both great, polished, professional and not what I would call inexpensive. Worth the money if you have it to spend, but not inexpensive.
You have word on your desktop, most likely. It's already paid for and will work nicely although your first few documents will be painful, getting the tables right, etc. You might even find someone nice enough to share a word doc to get you started.
