I use inbound 820 & 823 documents to automate the posting of cash receipts into
our backend application system.

Inbound 820 = EFT deposits automatically received into your bank account(s) via
your customer's ACH payments

Inbound 823 = Lockbox deposits of hardcopy checks which your banking institute
receives/posts into your account(s)

You can choose to have your bank provide this data to you in a couple different
electronic ways; enabling you to then post directly into your backend
application system.

1/ have your bank convert both types of cash receipts into a BAI2 formatted
file and forward that to you for posting

or

2/ have your bank provide X12 820 and 823 files which you will then convert
into BAI2 or format of your choosing in order to auto-post into your
application system

- your bank forwards the EFT (X12 820) file which they received from your
customer's banking institution

- your bank builds a Lockbox (X12 823) file from the hardcopy checks
received into the physical PO Box (lockbox)

I prefer option 2 as that gives me control of the mapping options; allowing
data retrieval from multiple segments if necessary - especially in the case of
the EFT X12 820 files.

Respectfully,
