Hi,

To my mind there is no one method of communication. I am sure this is a holy
grail but there is little point pursuing it.

With our VAN service - DINET, we operate many different conncetions to other
VAN providers. Examples are OFTP/ISDN, OFTP/IP, X.400/IP, SFTP,FTP and AS2.
There is no industry secret,,, well unless there is and I just don't know it!

Some protocols were designed with VANs in mind and some have been shoe horned
into an environment. I'm not going to start a protocol comparison discussion
though.

It is just the same as the commercial world. When connecting to a bigger VAN
you have to accommodate their methods and when connecting to a smaller one you
are in a position to dictate.

Kind Regards,

Ewan Friend
