Kevin,
As you may already know, the key question your friend needs to answer is: How
much integration does he want to achieve with his ERP/Accounting System?

Although there are many EDI solutions and options out there, most of them fall
within 2 categories:

1. EDI solutions capable of integrating directly into applications with
little to no human intervension (i.e. using maps to convert
directly to application data formats).
2. EDI solutions that require human intervention to integrate either manually
or
semimanually (i.e. using forms or printouts to populate the data)
In our experience, most Web-based solutions fall in the latter category. While
they may be simpler, quicker and less expensive to implement, they also
offer few benefits; and there's a catch: you minght end up paying more fixing
errors, re-entering data, and delaying responses.
As a general rule, the larger the volume of transactions a company process via
EDI, the easier it should be to justify implementing an automated version.
Rather than concentrating in finding the least expensive solution, your friend
may want to look for the best automated solution available for the money....
We've specialized in offering such solutions for SMEs for years, so it'd be
interesting to find out what other options and prices are available out there.
Good luck,
Ricardo

You might want to spring for that "turnaround" option.  Walgreens requires
you to send data back on the 810 exactly as you received it on the 850,
warts and all.  Just so happens I have their specs on my desk right now.
