I liked your review of JD Edwards very much. I spent two years working with
their flat files and I have to admit they are quite bloated. Lots of fields
I left empty. However, before anything was posted to the database, these
flat files had to pass validity, a validity that my EDI translator could not
do.

What I would like to see is a translator that would first pull in the
database record (s) (if they exist); compare it with the EDI document; have
logic to see what, if any, data can be safely posted (updated) and flag that
which will require human intervention.

Sincerely,

Subject: [EDI-L] JD Edwards and EDI - Data Base v.s. 'Flat Files'

I have had recent interest in the subject of JD Edwards EDI and use of Flat
Files v.s. Data Base Tables. To me it is idiotic to use Flat Files for much
of anything any longer. But it is amazing how this primitive approach in
today's Data Base Systems environment continues to be used; even promoted
and presented in Webinar Presentations. Amazing isn't it.

Anyway, I've put together a sort of white paper on the matter. Love to hear
some comments from my 'peers' <smile>!
