I agree with Leah. I am trying to get those handling the ERP system to
resolve a issue I foresee happening when the 810s go live that involves the
allowances and charges at the item level. Right now we are in the
development phase so it is not critical, but once in production it will
become a huge problem if it is not resolved now. They are fully aware of
the problem and will address it, but like all the other departments
demanding attention, we will have to wait our turn. I agree that it's our
responsibility, as professionals, to guide our management into making
considered, and rational, and hopefully wise, decisions. But I can only
lead them not make them and that is what is most frustrating. No matter how
many times I bring this up, it is merely acknowledged and they move on. All
I have been able to do is document it so if this isn't resolved until we
move into production I can act quickly to implement my part of the needed
solution.

Sincerely,

Jason McMahon

Chris,
You've posted valuable responses several times in the past, but not so often
that I understand your tone and email is a difficult medium for conveying
expression accurately. You'll notice I put the "wrong" in parentheses,
mainly because, depending on the business, you might or might not be.
Mostly, I'm a little frustrated with so many responses focusing on the
translator as the issue and how to "fix" that. I like to think we're a more
enlightened and experienced bunch, looking at the big picture. In my
experience, managers, at least the non-techies, want the fast and easy fix,
without thinking through the ramifications to the business. I feel it's our
responsibility, as professionals, to guide our management into making
considered, and rational, and hopefully wise, decisions.

Leah

I am truly sorry that you felt that; it certainly was not my intention
to put anybody down. As to being wrong ... well, that is entirely
possible!

Chris
