I'm an EDI consultant that's been doing work for a few companies for several
years. I'm in a position where my customers are asking me to outsource their
EDI. I know how to acquire the licenses for EDI software and everything else I
need to do.... but 1 thing, the VAN or interconnect situation.

I would like to know what is required to be a VAN. I haven't had much luck
finding this info. I know it's not hard, I've seen plenty of VAN's emerge. I
just don't know if there are any rules to it...

How do I then establish myself as an interconnect-able company? Does Sterling
just trust me? Or, are their VAN's out there that will let me buy into their
network so I can interconnect freely with 1 big VAN that acts on my behalf?

Anyway, I'm interested to know.. I don't plan on taking over big VAN's, just
need a compact solution for a handful of companies.

Thanks,
Carl
