I was a little confused by this one, too. I was wondering if Bernd might be referring to ANSI X12 version 4010? I thought EDIFACT was versioned more like D97A, D04B, etc.?

Doesn't N3 just mean there are 3 implied decimal places in the number as written? That means if the element is defined as X characters long then the whole number length of the value can be up to X-3 with up to a .999 afterwards. So if it was 10 characters long defined as N3 the largest number would be 999999.999 I can't think of any EDIFACT elements offhand that would be defined as N3 though. I only do a handful of documents in EDIFACT but most numeric elements are either real with a defined number of places to the right of the decimal if applicable or they are integers defined as N0. Its the application side where I usually run into fields that are defined with implied decimals. On Jun 8, 2012, at 2:35 PM, Eckenfels.
