Could using MdeModulePkg/Universal/Variable/EmuRuntimeDxe instead of MdeModulePkg/Universal/Variable/RuntimeDxe be the problem, given that EmuRuntimeDxe does not support NV storage and UEFI variables (ConIn, ConOut) are required to be kept static? Also, this would be how I can maintain persistence of variables once I get the kernel running, I suppose?
