_Almost_ anything in GIF files will not print well; however, graphics
without curves (and preferably without slant lines) are more or less an
exception, and many statistical graphics are heavy on such. Also, a
2-color GIF at 300 DPI will be not much larger than one at 72 DPI, so if
you can boost your resolution way up there will be comparatively little
memory overhead.
