Sorry for the confusion but it's Gerard with a 'G', Jerry with a 'J'

Former US President Gerald Ford does the same thing--Jerry with a
'J'.
One time when he was being interviewed, he was asked about the G/J
discrepancy and I was surprised to hear we do it for the same
reason. When we were growing up, standard practice was for male
Jerry's to spell it with a J, regardless of one's first
initial--Gerard, Gerald, Jerome--while females spelled it with a
G--Geraldine. A little nugget of US history.
