There are two books that I thought pretty good, though that's conditioned by my
background in computers, and some of the really intro ones might be better for
an absolute beginner.

One is Rick Aster's book, Professional SAS Programming Secrets; the other is
something like "Mastering the SAS System" but I wasn't able to find it in a
couple of the book search engines, so it may be out of print.

Unless you have a good programming background, or already have some experience
with SAS, I would go for something in the Books by Users series rather than the
SAS Institute publications, which can be rather heavy for the novice.
