I might suggest "Biostatistics - The Bare Essentials" by Norman and Streiner
(Mosby-Year Book, Inc. - 1994 - ISBN: 1-55664-369-1). These two Canandians
write with clarity and wit. My in-house seminar students love it. Each major
section is concluded with examples of how biostatistics studies are or have
been misused in the research literature. These examples are labeled "Circular
Reasoning and Anti-intellectual Pomposity" (note the four-letter acromym)
Detectors. Perhaps the most attractive feaure for students is the soft-cover
format which keeps the price well within reason (a relative rarity in
statistics texts.)
