Dear Sir or madam,

Sorry to bother you with a minor "student" problem. I was referred to you
by professor Howell who suggested you may be able to
help me with a statistical problem I have not been able to solve myself so
far. To put it briefly, I would like to correct multiple and canonical
correlations for attentuation, however, I am not aware fo the correct
formulars to carry this out. I am aware of the correction procedure for
sinmple bivariate correlations. But I never came accross any formulars to
correct multiple and canonical correlations for attenuation. I consulted
several textbooks, further literature and statisticans without finding the
solution to my problem. I would very much appreciate your help if you
could give me any further advice iont he question how it is possible to
correct multiple and canonical correlations for attentuation.

I am doing a PhD in psychology on the relations between learning under
implicit instruction, learning under explicit instruction and various
intelligence factors. The hypothesis to be tested is that learning under
implicit instruction shows a weaker relationship with iq measures than
learning under explicit instruction. A study with 600 school children as
participants recently completed appears to support the
hypothesis. however, measures of implicit learning
consistently obtained lower reliability estimates than measures of
explicit learning. It is therefore very crucial in order to control for
this possible artefact to correct the multiple and canonical correlations
for attentuation.
Unfortunatelty , this is exactly what I am not able to do right now. If
you could give me any any advice on this issue, this owudl be a great help
much appreicated.

Thank you so much for your assistance!

Yours faithfully
Guido Gebauer
