You might want to check out the Latent Semantic Indexing webpage.A lot of
the stuff that TextSmart does can be done better using LSI. After using your
link to visit the SPSS homepage, it seems they use TFIDF techniques to
cluster survey responses. LSI is a better technique compared to TFIDF. Also,
HNC has their own text processing software which uses context vectors. You
can probably replicate their technique if you go thru Stephen Gallant's
context vector paper. He has a web presence too.
