Well I don't know what STATISTICA looks like now, but in the late 1980's and early
1990's they were a flagrant "ripoff" of SYSTAT. Leland Wilkinsons (president of
SYSTAT) made a pretty well documented case that StatSoft not only used much of the
SYSTAT code, but also implemented some pieces of it improperly, and certainly were
guilty of plagirism. Most of us who do statistics for a living have little
tolerance for such behavior. I know that I can never reward StatSoft for this
outrageous behavior by ever using STATISTICA myself or recommending it to anyone
else.
