do you mean when you use this again? or, for the data you have in hand?
for data in hand ... don't worry about it ... for using again ... can't you 
rescale the 4 pointers as 7 pointers? or vice versa?

i would not suggest that you complicate your life!

how many items? what size alpha? can you get by with fewer?
