create mathematical symbols. I was asked to compile the responses, so

One Windows interface is WinTeX, http://www.tex-tools.de/main.html
MathEdit

Mathcad
http://www.mathsoft.com/mathcad/
The most recommended program was Mathtype. The Equation Editor in MS Word
is a scaled down version of Mathtype. Equation Editor is not
automatically installed when Word is.
