Many times I held my breath while observing the debate
on Inappropriate Hypothesis Testing, but now it seems
to have reached closure, I sincerely wish to compliment
all concerned - those who participated, and those who held
their silence for whatever reason (although I personally
would have liked to hear what some prominent members of
this list were thinking). In my opinion this debate did
expose some important issues for we who teach, read, and
use statistics: in particular it came to the heart of
the matter concerning inference, but it also revealed
differences concerning the relevance of statistics.
For a psychologist, this debate is a classic case study
in the conduct of e-mail discussion.
