I worked for a small startup for 9 months where we did try to get an SBIR,
but it didn't get funded (at the time, SBIRs we'ren't being funded much
above 1 proposals out of ten submissions anyway, so it wasn't unexpected),
but that startup was started _within_ another small company that was
charging rent for the second, startup, to occupy space within its space.
In fact both the parent and child companies had the same president !!!
And, the president was hiring both of his own kids as employees and
setting up contractual arrangements with other of his personal friends and
business associates!!! You know...built-in nepotism, built-in pre-existing
networking!!
