In a chapter in Ecob and Cuttance's "Structural Modeling by Example"
by Hauser and Mossel a fit statistic is used with the label "L^2".
This statistic appears to be either chi square or closely related to
chi square. Is L^2 a European way of denoting chi square? Was it
traditional for printing houses that didn't have the plates necessary
for a greek letter in a particular typeface? Or is it just a fit
statistic I'm completely ignorant of (the likely answer)? Thanks in
advance for any enlightenment.
