there are actually several variations on rankings

from <help> on spss
"You can select multiple ranking methods. A separate ranking variable is
created for each method. Ranking methods include simple ranks, Savage
scores, fractional ranks, and percentiles. You can also create rankings
based on proportion estimates and normal scores.

Proportion Estimation Formula. For proportion estimates and normal
scores, you can select the proportion estimation formula: Blom, Tukey,
Rankit, or Van der Waerden."

you can also treat ties by giving all cases with the same value the low,
high, mean, or sequential ranks.

The algorithms on these are spelled out on the spss page.

I beleve there is a Polish version of SPSS.
The SPSS site was up when I just looked.

http://www.spss.com/tech/stat/algorithms/7.5/rank.pdf

gives all the formulae for RANK. It would be very difficult to put them
all in ascii text format.

Hope this helps.
