JAN: since you mention drug trials, i have a feeling you are looking for information on the Kaplan Meier procedure, one of the nonparamtric techniques for survival analysis. there are tons of explanations about this. one i like is in WW Daniel: A foundation for analysis in the health sciences. Wiley publishers. alternatively, you could go into Google and you will find many many citations to the technique. good luck
