I have seen a paper which shows that Venn diagrams can
be constructed with any number of convex regions.

However, I also agree that Venn diagrams are a poor way
to do things, even with 3 variables.  Truth tables or
2x2x ...  x2 tables are much easier to understand.

Occasionally, tree diagrams may be more instructive;
they are a way of pulling apart truth tables to get at
the causal structure.
