Curious -- I wonder, does a subject line of "sexual dimorphism" result in
one's email being blocked these days?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3) "Studs" are taller than "babes" (and probably by an amount
significantly exceeding the actual sexual dimorphism of human beings)
-Robert Dawson
The sex difference for ideal mates was 5.1 inches, 95% CI from 4.5 to 5.8.
The sex difference for students' own heights (on a different, smaller
sample) was 5.7 inches, 95% CI from 4.3 to 7.1.
Ignoring effects of same-sex preferences among some students, the mean
height of the 'studs' was 71.6, while that of male students was one inch
shorter, 70.6. The mean height of the 'babes' was 66.4, while that of
female students was and inch and a half shorter, 64.9. Height is, I have
read, associated with reproductive success.
One of my grad students did a thesis on mate preference many years ago. He
found a moderate correlation between height of ideal mate and respondent's
own height, that is, positive assortative mating (same for many other traits
too).
Cheers,
