Dear EdStat readers,

Next week I will be in San Francisco at the Joint Statistical Meetings, and I will not have access to e-mail. That means that the EdStat list will operate on autopilot from August 2-7. During that time, messages from nonsubscribers will NOT be posted to the list.

A bit of relevant background: The newsgroup sci.stat.edu and the e-mail list EdStat are linked -- messages sent to one are automatically forwarded to the other. In an effort to eliminate spam from the EdStat list, all messages sent to EdStat from non-subscribers are bounced to me for approval before going to the list. As a result, every message posted on sci.stat.edu by a non-subscriber to EdStat is forwarded to me for approval. I will approve all legitimate messages when I get home, but messages will not arrive in the order in which they were sent.

If you are a regular poster on sci.stat.edu, but are not subscribed to EdStat, your messages will appear on the newsgroup, but not on the list. You can help maintain continuity in message threads (and reduce the number of messages that will await me when I get home!) by subscribing to EdStat. You can subscribe with a "no mail" option, and you will receive no mail from the list. The fact that you are subscribed should be totally transparent to you. I would be more than happy to add you to the list myself if you give me permission.
