I had not used that before. 

When I put in < nonparametric >  and December, 1999,
I was shown a set of articles from November.  Apparently
the 2nd date (as a month) counts as the start of the month.

So, I extended the range to January, and I was shown
several posts from December, too.  You can click on an
entry, and it is displayed very nicely.  

But it does not display the 'thread'  and, in this case,
< nonparametric>  did not happen to capture the post by J. Dallal.

You can search with groups.google  for Dec. 6, 1999,
< nonparametric >  in sci.stat.edu  (using Advanced Search),
and get  17 posts in the thread.
