I have two phantom 3D image data sets. One data set differs from the
other by a known amount of 3D rotation and translation.

I am using a software algorithm to attempt to realign the two data sets
correctly in 3D space.

The algorithm provides information on the three rotational and
translational parameters it calculates are required to align the data
sets. These can be compared to the know translations and rotations required.

The algorithm is applied to a number of different types of data and I
wish to compare the overall ability of the algorithm to correctly apply
rotations and translations for the different data sets.

What general measures can I use to compare the different data sets. Can
I provide and overall measure for rotation and translation?

For example I assume for translation I can take the (x2 + y2 + z2)0.5 as
an overall measure of the translations. Is this correct? If so what is
the equivalent measure for overall rotation?

Also are there any measures that account for both the rotations and
translations at the same time?

Thanks in advance for any help
